How we built a global movement to recognise the Great Barrier Reef's lifetime of greatness.

Meet the first non-human nominee for a lifetime achievement award.

To break the media misinformation, and reframe the conversation around the Great Barrier Reef, we shifted it from being a victim of climate change to the world’s biggest (literally) and most important environmental champion.

And to treat it accordingly, we found a loophole that let us nominate the Reef for the world’s highest environmental honour - a UN Lifetime Achievement Award. The world took notice. So did the UN.

An aerial shot of a coral reef in the ocean with a message overlaid: "A lifetime this great deserves a lifetime achievement award."

We brought together First Nations spokespeople, marine scientists, schools, tourism bodies, and government like never before in support of our nomination.

Our official UN submission became the heart of our global campaign.
